What we help with

The everyday things people ask us about.

You don't need to know exactly what you need before you walk in. Most people start with one of these — and we work the rest out together.

01

Older Person's pass

For anyone of State Pension age. Free off-peak travel on local buses across England.

02

Disabled Person's pass

If a disability or condition limits your mobility or driving, you may qualify, regardless of age.

03

Replacing a lost pass

Lost, stolen or damaged? We'll sort the replacement application with you.

04

Renewals

Your pass needs renewing every five years. We'll get the dates right and the form posted.

05

Proof and ID

Confused about what counts as proof? Bring what you have — we'll make sense of it.

06

Online or paper

North Yorkshire Council prefers online; we can do either, on our PC or yours.

What to expect

Three steps, and you're not on your own for any of them.

  1. 01

    Book a slot

Ring or email to arrange an appointment, Mon–Fri 9–4. Bring your ID if you have it.

  2. 02

    We sit with you

We take a passport-style photo and complete the council form together.

  3. 03

    Card in the post

North Yorkshire Council posts your pass out, usually within 10 working days.

Who it's for

Come and see us if…

  • You live in North Yorkshire (Selby district included)
  • You're State Pension age or older
  • Or you have a qualifying disability or long-term health condition
  • You'd like a hand with the form, photo or proof
What to bring

Worth bringing if you've got it.

  • Proof of address (recent utility bill, council letter, bank statement)
  • Proof of age (passport, driving licence, birth certificate) — or proof of disability (PIP letter, DLA, Blue Badge, blue/orange parking notice)
  • Your old pass if you're renewing

Don't worry if you haven't got everything. Come anyway and we'll work back from what you do have.

Frequently asked

The questions we get asked most.

Is the pass really free?

Yes. The pass itself is free in North Yorkshire and there's no charge for our help applying for it.

When can I use it?

On local buses across England, from 9.30am weekdays and all day at weekends and bank holidays. The Disabled Person's pass often allows earlier travel.

Does it cover trains?

No, the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme is buses only. But Selby has a great Senior Railcard option — ask us.

How long does it take?

About 20 minutes with us, then around 10 working days for the pass to arrive in the post.

I'm not great with forms — will you actually fill it in?

Yes. We type, you sign. No judgement, no tutting.
